Food stamps, Social Security disability insurance, the Affordable Care Act and other social programs are being called into question in Congress, and across the country, more so than ever before. But are these federally-funded programs useful? Are they financially sustainable? Is the government responsible to pay for them? Some believe we would be better suited as a nation to redirect those funds towards defense, border security and immigration enforcement. Others think the opposite. At the heart of the debate, do federal social programs effectively benefit those who need it most or do these programs create fraud and dependency.

Join us in welcoming Rep. Rosa DeLauro from Connecticut, the senior Democrat on the Appropriations subcommittee responsible for funding the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and related agencies. As a staunch defender of the working class, women and families, she will share her perspective on the fight over social programs and President Trump’s plans for the future of the United States.

The Honorable Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Leader for the US House of Representatives, will provide introductory remarks.
