Event Details

Join the International Forum and Director Malachi Leopold for a special screening of "Alex and Ali," the documentary film that tells the true story of a forbidden love between two men in 1970s Iran. As a Peace Corps volunteer in 1967, Alex served in Iran where he met Ali, an Iranian Muslim. The two fell in love and kept their relationship secret for ten years until the Iranian Revolution forced Alex to return to the US without Ali. Although they have kept in touch through phone calls, email and letters, this film shows how they seek to overcome the deep political, geographical and cultural divides that have kept them separated for 33 years, and the enormous difficulties associated with this attempt to reunite.

There will be a 30-minute question and answer session with Leopold after the screening.

International Forum Film Night was developed by members of the International Forum, a globally minded multicultural group that acts as an interactive arm of the World Affairs Council. The group, comprised exclusively of volunteers, hosts speaker events, informal group discussions, social gatherings, a book club and other networking opportunities.
