Mission and Description

The World Affairs Council of Sacramento Schools Program seeks to educate area students on how international events affect their lives, their communities, and their country. The goal is to empower students to become effective, active citizens and leaders in the global community.

Objectives:

- To educate students about international issues through interactive programs
- To discuss global issues involving students, educators, and companies in the Sacramento Region
- To assist Sacramento youth prepare for their role as future leaders in a global society
- To assist teachers with professional development and resources
- To assist schools with international education

To further our goal of increasing student and teacher participation in international affairs, the Schools Program offers a variety of scholarships every year. The scholarship programs are made possible annually through the generosity of Council members and our community.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE AT ASILOMAR

The World Affairs Council's Annual Conference at Asilomar, located in Pacific Grove, is held the first weekend of May. The Schools Program awards at least one student scholarship to the conference every year, covering all expenses except transportation. The conference consists of plenaries, break-out sessions, policy simulations, and mentor programs.

Eligibility: Full-time high school, community college, undergraduate and graduate students and pre-collegiate teachers.
