Ms. Gillian Sorensen

Ms. Sorensen, a top-level official at the UN for many years is coming from New York to speak to the World Affairs Council of Sacramento about the United Nations' role in the international legal arena. Ms. Sorensen, now a senior advisor at the UN Foundation, is a national advocate on matters related to the UN. She is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a Fellow at the University of Southern California Center on Public Diplomacy.

Justice Goldstone will speak to the Council about Africa's regional economic and political situation, in particular the crisis in Darfur. The Justice will also reflect on his experience on the African continent during the his push for ridding South Africa of the apartheid system. As former justice of the South African Constitutional Court and lead prosecutor for the Rwandan Criminal Tribunal, Justice Goldstone is a leading figure in the international legal community.

On March 12, renowned anthropologist and historian Brian Fagan will discuss his new book "The Great Warming: Climate Change and the Rise and Fall of Civilizations." Mr. Fagan, a university professor for three decades and author of various textbooks and other literary works, will speak about the historical context of global warming and its effect on civilizations throughout history.
