Event Details

This is an event organized by the Student Ambassadors at the World Affairs Council.

We decided to work towards the empowerment of women in Afghanistan through education because we believe that this is the key to prosperous happy families, stable lives and positive change. In order to help these women achieve the education everyone deserves, we've organized a fundraiser, a meet-the-speaker event with the founder of our partner organization (to which we will donate the funds), Budd Mackenzie.

Budd Mackenzie
is the founder of Trust in Education. After graduating from Amherst and getting a joint JD/MBA from Boalt Law School and Haas Business School, UC Berkeley, Mackenzie opened a private law practice in which he continues to provide legal and business counsel to entrepreneurs. His community service extends to coaching multiple sports teams while also being the president of Lafayette Little League and a Mock Trial advisor for Acalanes High School. For six years Mackenzie served on the Board of Directors for the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and served as president in 2006.

His drive to help rebuild Afghanistan came after reading Charlie Wilson’s War, and visiting the country. As the founder of Trust in Education, a grass-roots organization that provides education and health care to villages in Afghanistan, Mackenzie gets Americans involved by sharing the difficulties and successes in helping to rebuild a country he has visited 13 times over the past 6 years.

Tentative Schedule:

5:00 PM-5:15 PM – Check In

5:15 PM-6:00 PM – Presentation and Q&A session with guest speaker (Budd Mackenzie)

6:00 PM-7:00 PM – Food and mingle with speaker

The suggested donation for participation in this event is $10, and all proceeds go to Trust in Education in an effort to solve the problem of education for women in Afghanistan.
